Today the earth is filled with supposed cities of the Lord, each with its own humanly-appointed mayor. I am speaking, of course, of the local churches – large and small – that fill our landscape. Each has its own head, whether that be a pastor, a board of elders, or whatever. God is not impressed.
There is only one city of the living God, and its mayor is One. We who speak in the name of Christ are but town criers – yet what a glorious role for us to have!
To us who know Him is given the privilege of declaring His glory. God forbid we should sit in His chair.
