1 Samuel 10:1 Then Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on his head, kissed him and said, “Has not the LORD anointed you a ruler over His inheritance?
This verse from 1 Samuel foreshadows what happened to Jesus as He began His ministry:
Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,
Luke 3:22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”
Luke 3:23 When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age…
The anointing of Samuel (i.e., the anointing of Israel’s first king) also foreshadowed the great day of Pentecost when Jesus, having received the Holy Spirit from the Father, poured out that same Spirit on those who believed the message of the apostles:
Acts 2:33 “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.

The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus Christ in terms familiar to those who read the Bible, and to help others become more familiar with the Bible. For those unfamiliar with the Bible, see the blog A Nonchurchgoer’s Guide to Jesus and His Kingdom.
